ACDC Excellence In Community Service Award

The Asian Community Development Corporation of Boston presented Ed Chang with this award in recognition of his support of the ACDC's affordable housing mission. The award recognizes individuals who are "instrumental in our daily work, and leaders who have taken initiatives to serve Chinatown and the broader Asian American community of Greater Boston". Ed provided pro-bono services working with the real estate and affordable housing group of the ACDC to identify potential sites and buildings that were candidates for conversion into affordable housing, and he developed a scope and conceptual designs for the Fort Street affordable housing in Quincy, MA, a project now in development.   www.asiancdc.org

Cambridge Historical Commission Award

Chang + Sylligardos was the recipient of a Cambridge Historical Commission Award for the renovation of Dana Palmer House for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard. The 3,300 square foot 1820 Federal/Greek revival structure, designed to accommodate the Department of Comparative Literature, was transformed from its previous life as an administrative guest house. The historic entryway, hall and stairway were restored and new seminar rooms and offices created at the perimeter. The exterior was largely preserved, with improvements to accessibility, the building envelope and the adjacent landscape. Extensive efforts were undertaken to preserve the fenestration, massing and details of this National Register property; for example, one of the masonry chimneys was rebuilt atop new attic floor framing, clearing the space below for offices and the new synthetic balustrade re-establishes the original historic profile in durable and sustainable materials.
